Besa Gordon Discovers Emerald City Fish & Chips on her Support Black Business Campaign
By Besa Gordon
Hey everyone! Today was a super cool day. It marked the first day of our Support Black Business campaign, and I decided to put my money where my mouth is and try out a new spot. I'm always talking about supporting Black-owned businesses, but today I made a conscious effort to find one for lunch.
And let me tell you, I was NOT disappointed! I ended up at Emerald City Fish & Chips in the Rainier Valley, and the food was absolutely divine!
The Food
Okay, so first of all, the fish was so fresh. I got the halibut and catfish, and it tasted like it was caught that day! The breading was perfectly seasoned and crispy, not too thick like at some places. And the fries? Amazing. Even the coleslaw was good (and I'm not even a coleslaw fan!).
The Vibe
The customer service was also top-notch. Everyone was very welcoming and friendly. The location is super convenient, too, right across the street from the Safeway on Rainier Avenue South, so if you are driving, it’s not far from I-90 or I-5 and is also on the number 7 bus line.
The Cause
I was also really happy to see that they accept the Buy Black Card by Intentionalist, If you don't have one yet, definitely get one! It's a great way to support our Black-owned businesses by being intentional with your spending and saving money at the same time, thanks to BECU.
Black Business Spotlight
Emerald City Fish & Chips was opened by Stevie Allen on Seattle's Rainier Avenue in 2009 and has been delighting customers with his award-winning southern recipes and fresh seafood ever since! Stevie grew up cooking with his grandmother and brings those childhood recipes to the menu with a Northwest twist. They have a wide variety to choose from including their famous fish and chips, crab puppies, po'boys, and even gourmet burgers!
Overall
Honestly, I don't know why it took me so long to try Emerald City Fish & Chips. The food was incredible, and I'm so glad I finally got to support this Black-owned business. I'll definitely be back soon!
