Prioritizing Black Mental Health at the Therapy Fund Foundation’s Reclaiming Wellness Event Creates Impact
#MentalHealth - The Therapy Fund Foundation hosted their first annual reclaiming wellness event built to help the Black community build healthy self-care habits and discuss mental health challenges. Converge Media was a proud sponsor of the event at Green River College, which featured keynote speaker Dr. Uché Blackstock, the founder and CEO of Advancing Health Equity.
The day featured workshops, speakers, and even a youth panel focusing on issues facing young people in the community. It was an uplifting and powerful day which shed light on an issue which touches us all.
“This is an issue which has become more and more important, and I wanted to come share my expertise on how we can close the gaps of health equity,” Blackstock said.
The conference was the first of its kind in Washington State that was created by, led by, and specifically for BIPOC community members. Attendees came to network with other mental health professionals and learn ways to improve healthy outcomes for communities of color.
“This is important because we know that Black people are dealing with a lot,” KING 5 anchor Shante Sumpter said. “We need this, and we need to know that we’re not going through these things alone and we don’t have to accept less than everyone else.”
The Therapy Fund Foundation aims to eliminate barriers to Black healing for those who have been historically excluded throughout the diaspora, by providing mental health education, advocacy, and therapeutic services at no cost to the client, that address those suffering from racial trauma, anxiety, depression, and other ailments due to systemic oppression, economic suffering, and intergenerational trauma that has not been addressed in the past.
Converge Media was proud to join hands with the Therapy Fund Foundation as an official partner of this event. You can find out more about them and the work they’re doing here.
