Body Mechanic's MixxedFit: A High-Energy Path to Health

The Langston Hughes Center is proving its commitment to community health and wellness by hosting innovative fitness programs like MixxedFit. This unique dance fitness program, led by the dynamic Deon Abdullah, also known as the "Bodi Mechanik," is making waves at the center.

MixxedFit: A Fusion of Dance and Fitness

MixxedFit is a high-energy dance workout that blends explosive movements with bodyweight toning. It's a fun and effective way to get fit, and its community-based approach makes it even more appealing.

Deon Abdullah emphasizes MixxedFit’s inclusive nature. "It's for everybody, right? So no matter if you're old, young, you know, male, female, it's all based welcome," he says. "And really we all come together, and our focus is on health community and on just having a good time."

Community Impact and Accessibility

The partnership between MixxedFit and Langston Hughes Center is a testament to the center's commitment to providing accessible wellness resources to the community.

Trae Holiday, host of The Day With Trae on Converge Media and also a fitness enthusiast and advocate, praises the initiative. "This is really a part of Langston's commitment to keep their doors open," she says. "And Deon Body Mechanic Abdullah, as the lead instructor tonight for this amazing group dance fitness session...he always brings high energy, and that's what folks are going to be getting here at these amazing mixed dance sessions at Langston."

Deon echoes this sentiment, highlighting the importance of bringing health and wellness initiatives to the heart of the community. "It is vital to host health events like this at Langston because it offers access to the community that otherwise has barriers to it," he explains.

Benefits of Group Dance Fitness

MixxedFit's group setting offers numerous benefits, including:

  • Community Building: Participants connect and support each other, creating a positive and motivating environment.

  • Amplified Workout: The "wolf pack effect" of working out together pushes individuals to achieve more.

  • Fun and Enjoyment: The combination of music and dance makes the workout feel less like exercise and more like a party.

MixxedFit is just one part of a larger wellness movement at Langston Hughes Center. The center is embracing a holistic approach to health, offering a range of services and programs that cater to the community's diverse needs.

Join the MixxedFit movement!, Deon can be found every Friday evening at Studio MixxedFit in Tacoma (1126 Commerce St., suite 2, Downtown Tacoma, Wa.). Follow on Instagram.
