Creative Justice Hosts Black Health & Wellness Day
Creative Justice hosted their Black Health and Wellness Day at Washington Hall last weekend, featuring numerous organizations, guests and resources focused on community well-being. Organizer and Musician Rell Be Free said the goal of the event was to fulfill community needs and provide opportunities for healing.
“It’s like the feeling when you leave your auntie’s house - you got fed not just physically but spiritually too,” Rell Be Free said.
There were arts and crafts, including button making with Art Therapist Dalisha Phillips as well as music and activities, including massages, acupuncture and sound therapy. Executive Director of Creative Justice Nikkita Oliver said it’s important to her to uplift the health and wellness of Seattle’s Black community.
“This year we focused specifically on organizers who have built infrastructure or done work around health and wellness,” Oliver said.
For many, including the organizers, the event was therapeutic. Many attendees and organizers spoke about what made the event so special.
“Even when someone is really authentically checking in with you, we don’t even know how to receive it,” Vice President of the Washington Therapy Fund foundation Deaunte Damper said.
