Damn Good Beer - Métier Brewing Company Taproom set to open Friday
By Vaughn Williams
It’s time to “Brew Damn Good Beer!”
The Métier Brewing Company (MBC) is coming to Seattle’s Central District. The Métier Brewing Company Taproom is having its grand opening on June 4. They will have live music and savory food crafted by masterful chefs from Umami Kushi, a Japanese bakery. All of this to go along with the award-winning beers of MBC.
The Métier Brewing Company Taproom is looking to craft more than just delectable beers; they are looking to connect with and help uplift the Central District of Seattle. “The CD is home, and so, I’m coming home,” said co-founder and CEO of MBC, Rodney Hines. To Hines, fostering a relationship with the Central District community is essential to this taproom’s purpose. With gentrification ravaging our community’s Black owned businesses, Hines believes that by bringing the taproom to the community he can help reclaim and continue the values of the area.
“This is the moment where if you call the CD your home, claim it cause we’re claiming it,” said Hines.
Mercedes Robinson, the taproom manager, agrees with Hines’ statement. “MBC came to the neighborhood with intention, and we hope to co-create the space with the community that is here,” Robinson said. As manager, Robinson plans to act on those words and bring a community-oriented space to life.
Métier Brewing Company is 1 of less than 70 black-owned breweries in the United States. Hines’ goal is to change this; last year, Métier Brewing Company partnered with Reuben’s Brews and launched the Mosaic State Brewers Collective mentorship program for women and people of color. “The Mosaic State Brewers Collective is a dynamic new mentorship program launching this summer to develop future leaders in the brewing industry who are reflective of our nation’s diversity,” said Métier Brewing Company’s newsletter.
“We’re aiming to build a stronger community that allows and encourages us all to dream bigger,” said Hines
Now, it is time to get into some of the beers that will be on tap during the grand opening of the taproom. Firstly, the brew that both Hines and Robinson mentioned was the award-winning black stripe coconut porter; this beer is infused with the nutty taste of toasted coconut and is then brewed to perfection. Another spotlighted beer was Grandma’s Hands; this beer is made with Blackstrap Molasses and fresh ginger. According to MBC, this beer has a “nice crisp bite to it.”
