Digable Planets to perform at Westlake Welcome Back Weeks
Adra Boo, the emcee of Welcome Back Weeks, came by the Morning Update Show to talk about her excitement for the upcoming events.
“This is a really great opportunity for people to come back out, to feel like they still have some of their safety, and to have a good time,” Boo said.
She says the events will be the perfect chance for those who haven’t quite ventured back into the public arena due to COVID-19 to get reacquainted with live entertainment.
“I’m ready to get live with some people out in the open, get loud. I want to hug some people,” Boo said.
Boo is also excited about the lineup of performers.
“It’s not some cookie-cutter, acceptable, welcome to Seattle,” Boo said. “These are the people who really make Seattle go.”
The lineup for this weekend features Massive Monkees, Chong the Nomad and more at Hing Hay Park. Boo says she’s proud of the deep-rooted Seattle ties present in these events.
The biggest lineup announcement, though, came as a surprise announcement from Boo.
“For those who attend the Welcome Back Westlake event on the 25th, we are going to close out with a very special set from Digable Planets,” Boo said.
The performance by the iconic group will certainly be a highlight of the events over the next couple weekends, and Boo is hopeful that people from all over the city will come out and show their support.
“I’m born and raised in Seattle. I’m going to be everywhere I can be in the town,” Boo said. “Let’s get acclimated again to why the city is so lit in the first place.”
Boo, who’s vaccinated against COVID-19, says she’s happy she has it but isn’t judging those who don’t.
“I know that’s a choice that people have to make for all their reasons,” Boo said. “Not everybody is ready to get it.”
Each Welcome Back Week event will have a vaccine station for anyone who wants to begin the process.
The festivities kick off this weekend at Hing Hay Park, which will feature live music, food and cultural performances from 11 am - 7 pm each day.
