Kuddie Fresh spoke to Converge Music about his profound journey through the music industry, spanning over two decades of innovation and collaboration.

How did you get your start in music?

From a young age, I've always been musically inclined, naturally drumming and having a sense of rhythm. I honed my skills playing drums in church during middle school, where I also started experimenting with DJing. In high school, I joined a band, initially aspiring to be a rapper but gaining recognition for my drumming skills. I began learning to produce using a sequencer.

My initial start and formal entry into the music industry began during my college years in Seattle, in my early twenties. Later, in 2009, I moved to Atlanta, where I seized an opportunity to work with influential artists like T-Pain and co-produced a record for Chris Brown. The music scenes in Atlanta and Seattle differed significantly but were instrumental in shaping the early stages of my professional career as a producer.

Could you explain your role as a producer and how you approach music production?

As a producer, I focus on creating beats and establishing the foundation of a track. I primarily use software like Reason and enjoy experimenting with different tools such as synthesizers and MPC Live to craft my sound. My approach stems from my natural rhythm and the experiences I've gathered over the years, rather than formal training.

What prompted your return to Seattle, and how did that decision impact your career?

Moving back to Seattle in 2014 was driven by a desire to reconnect with my roots and establish myself in familiar surroundings. It provided me with stability and the mental space to focus on my musical aspirations. This period was really important in shaping my career trajectory.

Can you share a significant milestone or project that stands out in your career so far?

One memorable experience was working with LL Cool J and providing music for events like Rock the Bells. Collaborating with such influential figures has been a highlight, shaping my journey as a producer and expanding my reach in the industry.

How do you define success in your musical journey, and what are some of your proudest accomplishments?

Success, for me, is about staying true to my musical identity and continuously evolving as an artist. One of my proudest accomplishments is maintaining creative autonomy and producing music that resonates with listeners on a deep level.

What upcoming projects or collaborations are you excited about?

Currently, I'm focusing on projects that involve TV, media, and film, exploring new avenues to showcase my music. I'm excited about the potential to contribute to motion pictures and other creative ventures.

As we're nearing the end of Black Music Month, what does it mean to you personally and professionally?

Black Music Month is an opportunity to celebrate the rich diversity and innovation within Black music. It's a chance to challenge stereotypes and showcase the expansive palette of musical genres and influences that define Black culture.

Is there anything else you'd like to share about your journey, aspirations, or upcoming projects?

My journey in music has been a blend of personal growth and professional development. Looking ahead, I'm excited about the possibilities that lie ahead and eager to continue pushing the boundaries of my creativity.
