Mariners get a dominant win against Angels on Star Wars night
By Bel Garcia
Seattle, WA - The Seattle Mariners had a solid night on game two of their five game series against the Los Angeles Angels. An offense that we’ve come to believe is inconsistent really stepped up to the plate tonight, they took a commanding lead early and continued to rack up the runs. Starting us off with the first hit of the night was Julio Rodriguez, who made it to second on a fielding error in the first inning. Eugenio Suárez would follow that up with a single to center field to bring Rodriguez home for the first run of the game.
Have a day, Ray
Robbie Ray had a huge night for the Mariners, keeping the Angels scoreless for seven innings. He has only allowed one run in his last two starts and continues to have great performances when starting on the bump for the Mariners. Tonight was his 14th start of the season, seventh start at T-Mobile Park, and first start against the Los Angeles Angels. He currently leads the majors in most whiffs on sliders this season with 115. Ray pitched for seven innings, in which he allowed three hits, one run, one earned run, one walk, and ten strikeouts on 102 pitches. Robbie Ray nearly had a no hitter, but Angels’ Max Stassi had a hit in the seventh inning that came towards the mound and went just over Ray’s head and glove. However, there is nothing to dwell on with his stellar performance tonight.
The Force was with our offense
For four straight innings, the Mariners had at least one scoring run. The night began with a Julio Rodriguez score. In the second inning, Cal Raleigh had the only homer of the night, a ball that traveled 364 feet to right field and good things happen when Raleigh has a homer. The Mariners are now 10-0 when Cal Raleigh scores, and he has racked up eight homers this season. The biggest inning for the Mariners came at the bottom of the fourth where they were able to turn a loaded bases scenario into runs. Winker scored on a J.P. Crawford walk and the bases were still loaded, with J.P. now on first, Trammell on second, and Frazier on third. Ty France was able to get three more runs on the board with a double and three RBI from Crawford, Frazier, and Trammell. The offense coming together, and Ray’s almost shut out performance had Seattle cruising to a win.
Seattle looks to continue their tempo on offense tomorrow when playing games three and four of the series in a doubleheader. The Mariners are one win away from having the same record as the Angels and with a series win can take the third standing in the AL West.
