Mariners get shut out in game two of double header against Angels

By Bel Garcia

Seattle, WA - The Mariners were unable to get their offense going in the second game of today’s doubleheader against the Los Angeles Angels. After just falling short in the first game against Angels, the Mariners had the chance to split games today and walk away with an evening win. However, once again any opportunity of a scoring run for Seattle fell short as they left players on base in several innings.

No doubt when it comes to Trout

Mike Trout, who sealed the game for the Angels in the matinee match up, once again made the Mariners pout in this one. He scored the first run of the game and the first one for the Angels with a solo homer at the top of the third inning to give the Angels the lead. A lead in which the Mariners would never take as they did not have any scoring runs of their own. The final punch of the night from the Angels came from Jarred Walsh at the top of the seventh, a two-run homer to right field, in which Tyler Wade would score.

Mariners left on base

Seattle had the chance to strike first in the bottom of the first where they had loaded bases. Julio Rodriguez had a double and then moved to third, Eugenio Suárez drew a walk and moved to second, J.P. Crawford just made it safely to first base. Dylan Moore and Justin Upton were up next to bat, and both struck out. Rodriguez, Suárez, and Crawford were left on base, and the offense would continue to leave runners stranded to continue the game. By the end of the night, they would have left eight runners on base, they left ten on base in the first game of the double header. The Mariners have how left 498 runners on base all season, that is the most in baseball, and a heartbreaking number of missed opportunities.
