Mariners thump Athletics, 15-3, in last meeting between teams before regular season

Peoria, AZ – Following up their massive 17 run performance in a win against the Cincinnati Reds, the Seattle Mariners continued their impressive output of offensive against the Oakland Athletics. They didn’t top their run total from the game against the Reds but plating 15 runs in a 15-3 victory isn’t anything to scoff at. The Mariners offense seems to be clicking at just the right time heading into the regular season, as they’ve scored 32 runs over the course of the past two games with just a handful of games before Opening Day.

Cal continues to crush heading into the regular season
Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh, looking to build off his strong second half of the 2022 season and the obvious moment of ending Seattle’s 20+ player drought, looked strong and smart in today’s game. Raleigh slammed a three-run homer in the bottom of the first to score Mason McCoy and Ty France, but Cal continued to impact the game offensively after that first inning. Following his three-run blast, Raleigh reached base on a force out, later scoring on Sam Haggerty’s ball in play that caused a fielding error. In the bottom of the fifth, Raleigh singled to right field and later scored when the bases were loaded on a Sam Haggerty walk.

Delino DeShields Jr drops in
Infielder Delino DeShields Jr, son of Delino Deshields who was a 13-year MLB veteran and manager and signed just this last Tuesday, made his mark on tonight’s game. Helping to add on to Seattle’s offensive explosion against Oakland, DeShields Jr tacked on two hits, scored two runs, and drove a run in. Taking over in center field for Sam Haggerty who had started the game, DeShields Jr’s night was highlighted by an absolute rocket of a double in the bottom of the eighth inning that drove in Walking Cabrera. That double was his second hit in as many innings, and highlighted the immediate impact he made once coming into the game.

What’s next?
The Mariners group of Spring Training players will play split squad games tomorrow against the San Francisco Giants and Arizona Diamondbacks. The Giants game against, at Scottsdale Stadium, will take place at 1:05PM PST and will not be televised. The game against the Diamondbacks, at the Peoria Sports Complex that Charles and Liv will be at, has first pitch at 1:10PM PST and will be streamed on MLB Network and Root Sports Northwest.
