NW Black Pride's One Community One Voice Event Uplifts Community Members

Seattle’s Black LGBTQ+ Community came together at the W Hotel for PNW Black Pride’s 6th annual One Community One Voice event. The event featured food, speakers, and resources for community members and created an area of love and connection.

“It’s really all about bringing community together, it’s about loving on each other,” Event Coordinator Bishop Steven Sawyer said. “So often we’re so spread out and we don’t get a space to come together and celebrate each other and really create space for each other.”

The entire weekend was dedicated to Black Pride and supporting and empowering a community which often gets overlooked in the broader conversation. Build206’s André Franklin spoke on the importance of uplifting all Black communities.

“We’re really about building relationships and coming together,” Franklin said. “The issues that the LGBTQ+ folks face is the same issues that Black Men and Black women face. We need to work together to make sure that we’re uplifting Black folks as a whole.”

Singer/Songwriter Ariyah Jané agreed, saying that oftentimes Black and Brown members of marginalized communities are often left out of the spectrum.

“We want to make sure that we create space for people to come be themselves and be part of the community as freely and authentically as possible,” Jané said.
