PHOTOS: Ginger Ewing's Vision for Terrain: Community, Creativity, and Transformation

Besa Gordon recently had the opportunity to sit down with Ginger Ewing, the driving force behind Terrain, the Pacific Northwest's premier multimedia arts and music festival, in downtown Spokane.  Ewing has been instrumental in Terrain's growth and success over the past 15 years.

Ewing, a visionary in the arts community, shared her insights on Terrain's impact and its commitment to inclusivity, stating, "Terrain has created safe spaces for artists of color and for LGBTQ+ artists." She emphasized the festival's role in showcasing diverse artistic expressions, from visual and literary arts to dance, performance, and music. Ewing also highlighted Terrain's significant contribution to the local economy, revealing that in 2023 alone, they put $983,000 directly back into local artists' pockets.

Ewing's passion for art and community shone through as she spoke about Terrain's mission, stating, "As cliche as it sounds, I believe in the power of art and creativity. I think it's transformational. I think it's a community builder. I think it shines a light on our collective humanity." Her vision for Terrain extends beyond showcasing art; it's about creating a platform for artists to thrive, fostering a sense of community, and celebrating the transformative power of creativity.
