Queen Care and Monika C. Mathews Are Uplifting and Empowering Community

QueenCare Owner Monika C. Mathews spoke with Besa Gordon about the importance of leading by example and the ways she’s using her business to influence the community to focus on self-care on multiple levels.

“The premise of Queen Care is to indulge, engage and uplift,” Mathews said. “We want people to indulge in self-care practices that really support optimal health. We want people to engage in our community, which is literally how Queen Care got started.”

Mathews and Queen Care got their first location in 2018, and the flagship location on 23rd and Jackson opened in 2021. Through the growth that has come through having their retail space, Mathews has been able to lead the charge on the third part of their mission statement which is to uplift those who are most vulnerable.

“All of the work that we do here is in partnership with the community to make sure people get the marketable skills they need to work globally and live in whatever neighborhood they want to live in,” Mathews said.

The products Queen Care sells are all-natural and feature high quality ingredients.

“We don’t use any of the chemicals or anything that causes eczema or any of the other skin issues that are rampant,” Mathews said.

She also has focused on inspiring the youth to pursue their passions when it comes to entrepreneurship and creation. She’s taught kids to make some of Queen Care’s highest selling products, as well as pushing them to find out what their talents and interests are.

“We don’t want them to wake up every morning and hate their jobs,” Mathews said. “We really want them to go where their passion is.”
