Seattle Opera announces X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X, Alcina and others for 60th season
General Director Christina Scheppelmann announced today the lineup of artists and repertoire for Seattle Opera’s 2023/24 season, which celebrates the company’s 60th anniversary. To mark the occasion, Seattle Opera offers a range of titles spanning nearly all of opera’s history, from the eighteenth century to the 1980s. From intimate character portrayals to fantasy epics, the season features works never before seen in Seattle (Alcina, X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X) alongside enduring favorites (Das Rheingold, The Barber of Seville).
Garfield Super Block Academy announces Public Art Workshops
The Garfield Super Block will be releasing a call in the Spring of 2023 to hire seven artists to create permanent artworks for the GSB. These artworks will celebrate the seven cultural communities that made the Central Area what it is today; Duwamish, African American, Filipino, Japanese, Chinese, Italian and Jewish. In preparation for the launch of the call, the GSB is holding a public art academy to demystify the public art process. This workshop is open to any artist who may wish to apply for this project or is interested in learning more about being a public artist engaged in a community led project.
SEATTLE TO HOST THE 2024 DISCOVER NHL WINTER CLASSIC ® AS THE KRAKEN TAKE ON THE VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS
Today, the National Hockey League (NHL) announced that the 2024 Discover NHL Winter Classic® will be hosted by the Seattle Kraken who are taking on the Vegas Golden Knights on Monday, January 1, 2024, at T-Mobile Park, home of the Seattle Mariners.
The NHL’s premier event will be the first outdoor contest for the Kraken who began play during the 2021-22 season.

Auditions for STG’s 22nd Annual More Music @ The Moore have been extended through December 30
Seattle Theatre Group (Paramount, Moore, Neptune) will be selecting some of the region’s most talented emerging artists, ages 14-21, for a performance at the Moore Theatre. MM@M is seeking a great variety of style and genre including world, cultural, popular, classical and contemporary music. Bands, Ensembles, and soloists- all are encouraged to audition. Once selected, in person rehearsals are required, so being within 30 miles of downtown Seattle is advised.

Connectors will help ensure equitable economic recovery
The Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, the Port of Seattle, and King County announced today that seven community organizations will serve local small businesses through the Community Business Connector (CBC) program.
These organizations, identified as Connectors, will serve small businesses in five geographic hubs in King County through a targeted outreach program. Connectors will provide access to available business resources to help them sustain and grow their enterprises. A review panel selected the Connector finalists following a competitive application process.

Recognizing that community-centered public libraries can play a unique role in addressing the teen mental health crisis, the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) awarded The Seattle Public Library a $249,743 grant for a three-year project titled “Creating Space for Teen Mental Health.”
