Meet Kathya Alexander, she wears many hats, excelling as an author, playwright, storyteller, and teaching artist. Her talents have earned her notable achievements, including being a Writer-in-Residence at the esteemed Hedgebrook Writer’s Retreat and winning the Fringe First Award for Black to My Roots: African American Tales from the Head and the Heart in Edinburgh, Scotland. Kathya's remarkable work has garnered recognition from organizations such as 4Culture, the Office of Arts and Culture, Artist Trust, and Seattle Parks and Recreation. With a knack for storytelling, she has contributed to publications like Colors NW Magazine and the South Seattle Emerald, while her creative pieces have found homes in various literary outlets, including The Pitkin Review, Arkana Magazine, Pontoon Poetry, and Native Skin Magazine. Kathya's playwriting portfolio boasts impactful works like The Negro Passion Play, Black D*ck Matters, David & Jonathan: A Modern Day Retelling of the Biblical Story, and emotional black male. Holding an MFA in Creative Writing, Kathya's debut novel, slated for release in April 2024 by Aunt Lute Books, promises to captivate readers with her distinctive voice and storytelling prowess.
