Rev. Dr. Leslie D. Braxton - Songs of Black Folk

Meet Reverend Dr. Leslie D. Braxton, he is the Founding Pastor of New Beginnings Christian Fellowship in Kent, Washington. He has served as its Senior Pastor since its first public worship service on August 7th, 2005. New Beginnings is a multi-ethnic, inter-generational congregation that holds in tension the need for both personal and social transformation.

In 2000 Doctor Braxton was selected to the prestigious Morehouse Board of Preachers. He has served as adjunct professor for the Seattle Pacific University and the Bakke School of Theology, providing instruction in the study of Black Church History and Homiletics to these institutions respectively. He has served for many years on the Board of Directors for the Berkley School of Theology (formerly known as the American Baptist Seminary of the West).

Doctor Braxton is also the founder and the Executive Producer of the SONGS OF BLACK FOLK, an annual Juneteenth Musical extravaganza that celebrates how the African Musical Tradition evolved into many different musical genres throughout the African American experience and struggle for freedom and justice in an anti-black, white-supremacist society. These genres include, negro spirituals, blues, jazz, gospel, Rock-n-Roll, R&B, Funk, Pop, hip-hop, rap, even spoken word.
