The Road To The Dome ended Saturday night in Tacoma as the storied Garfield Basketball program reached a new height. The star-studded Bulldogs swept the 3A Girls & Boys State Championships, an accomplishment which few schools can ever claim. The Lady Bulldogs’ kicked off the Gold Ball Party by defeating Lake Washington 58-49 in the afternoon before the Boys beat O’Dea 69-50.
The Road To The Dome raged Tuesday night as Shorecrest defended their home court against Stadium in a 3A Regional Playoff Game. With the winner advancing to play in Tacoma next week and the loser being eliminated, every person in the gym from both schools left all their energy in the gym. In the end, the Scots pulled off a nail-biter of a victory over the Tigers 48-45.
On December 30th, Converge was in the building as Trae & Proof caught the Digable Planets concert at Neptune Theatre. It was a jam packed house as this terrific trio made their way to the stage. The audience was in high anticipation for what was to come. With their melodic hip hop sound, they came to the stage prepared to give us a dynamic show that took us through their timeless classics.
On Friday afternoon the Round Up team met down at Memorial stadium for the Friday night lights game of week. The highly anticipated match up between the undefeated Garfield Bulldogs and the undefeated Eastside Catholic Crusaders got under way at 7:45 pm. The first half of the game was a true battle with the two schools showcasing just how good their defenses can be. Stand out players on Garfield’s defense include # 9 Micheal Montgomery and #26 Mister Beaver and #16 Henry Smidt. Quarterback EJ Caminong found Wide Receiver #1 Jamaica Myres on a drive that led to Garfield putting up 7 points.
Garfield continued their undefeated season last week by beating Ballard 55-6. The whole team got in on the action with EJ Caminong, one of the best quarterbacks in the state, leading the bulldogs with 3 passing touchdowns and 1 rushing (for the season he has 1,135 yards passing 11 TDs and 0 int). The standout for this game though was Reylen Witherspoon. The freshman had 11 carries for 111 yards and 2 TDs. The battle of the unbeaten is tonight as the Garfield bulldogs take on the Eastside Catholic at memorial stadium 7:45 pm.
Kendrick Glover visited The Truth With Proof at the Black Media Matters Studio to discuss how he is empowering our youth through his program, Glover Empowering Mentorship. During this episode, Glover describes the struggles he went through as a child, including spending time in prison at a young age. When he was released, he started college and eventually decided to help mentor young people so that he could help them find a better path in life.
I was a little nervous about my first time shooting at T-mobile Park. It’s been a dream of mine to shoot and MLB game and as soon as I got into the gates the atmosphere was amazing. The people working there were helpful in getting me to the press box to meet up with Ike Everard.
The Truth With Proof was joined by Melissa Cruz, a successful entrepreneur and the co-founder of Rich Port Durags. Rich Port Durags has bonnets, durags, and brushes to help keep your head protected from the twists and turns of a good night’s slumber. This summer, Cruz plans on joining multiple pop-ups with Africa town, but it is also not uncommon to see her selling her durags in the park by herself.
Chef Tay joined The Truth With Proof in the Black Media Matters Studio to talk about his story and give Proof a taste of his food. As you all know, Proof rates all of the food he eats from one to five. Chef Tay cooked up a green vegan curry with coconut rice for Proof to try, and it was awarded an outstanding 5 out of 5. Chef Tay does catering, and he has various options for different dietary needs. He considers himself a jack of all trades and can do pretty much any form of cooking.

Naudia Miller, an impactful member of our community, joined The Truth With Proof earlier this week. Like many of us, Miller, a mother of two, was frustrated with the inefficiency and lackluster quality of our school system. Miller was also at the point in her life where she was tired of working for corporations that did not value her as much as they should have.
Reggie Witherspoon, a phenomenal student-athlete who just recently clocked the third-fastest 100-meter time in the state, joined The Truth With Proof this week. Witherspoon, a sophomore at Seattle Academy, shows dedication to Track and Field that far exceeds his fellow peers, “I know what my dream is… I want to do whatever it takes to get there, and I want to stay clear of distractions that’s going to take me off that course,” said Witherspoon.
DeChelle Monet and Kelly Jefferson are entrepreneurs that run their own businesses and are the definition of a power couple. This week, they visited The Truth With Proof to discuss their companies together. DeChelle is currently in the construction business doing post-construction cleaning, and KC currently owns a trucking business, KCD Trucking.
