Deaunte Damper: Overcoming Imposter Syndrome and Finding Community

It was another emotional day last week at Converge Media’s Black Media Matters Studio as Deaunte Damper taped his final episode as guest host of Back2Besa. Converge Media has been a source of healing and growth for many, including Deaunte Damper, who recently shared his personal journey after his final taping of Back2Besa. He has been filling in as a guest host during Besa Gordon’s leave to focus on her health. Deaunte expressed the difficulty in overcoming personal struggles and the courage it took to face them head-on.

Imposter syndrome, a common experience where individuals doubt their accomplishments and fear being exposed as a fraud, was a significant challenge for Deaunte. However, through his involvement with Converge and especially his 4 weeks as guest host on Back2Besa, which included live appearances on FOX 13’s Good Day Seattle, he was able to break free from this self-doubt and embrace his true potential, all while still working 40 hours a week at his full-time job.

Converge has provided a space for Deaunte to be vulnerable and authentic, surrounded by supportive individuals, including Besa Gordon and Back2Besa Director Erik Kalligraphy, who understood and accepted him. This sense of community and belonging fosters an environment where Deaunte continues to thrive and shed the weight of imposter syndrome.

Deaunte's story highlights the transformative power of community and the importance of finding a safe space to confront personal challenges. It also demonstrates the strength and courage it takes to overcome imposter syndrome and embrace one's true self.

Converge continues to be a beacon of hope for individuals like Deaunte, offering support, guidance, and a sense of belonging. It is through these shared experiences and collective efforts that we can all grow, heal, and overcome our personal struggles.

Thank you, Deaunte, for being so open and honest, for your hard work and commitment. Please believe that you belong.

Make sure to tune into Back2Besa this Saturday at 10:30 p.m., as TraeAnna Holiday steps in as guest host for the next few weeks.
