Black and Loud: Black Artists Rock Seattle During New Music Festival

Our Community Queen TraeAnna Holiday showed out at Black and Loud Festival - a Seattle music festival built to feature Black-fronted bands from around the world. Taking place at The Crocodile Seattle Wa, it was an evening to remember featuring top acts. 

“I was completely impressed with the amount of talent that was displayed at Black and Loud Fest,” Holiday said. “The coordination of all 3 stages and the wide breadth of performers was incredible. Kudos to everyone for putting on such a complex yet perfectly coordinated event!”

Holiday walked the Black carpet and hung out with some of the artists and organizers of the festival, tapping in to hear what they had to say about the importance of the day.

“There’s a lot of shows where little Black kids come up after and say ‘I didn’t know we could do that,” Cameron Lavi-Jones of King Youngblood said. “The reason why I started rock music was because I wanted to showcase what I didn’t have coming up.

The whole event was filled with great music and inspiration.

“I’m inspired by all the great music here,” Recording Artist P Washington said. “It’s easy to catch a vibe here and there’s a lot of great talent.”

The festival started after King Youngblood's Cameron Lavi-Jones and Down North's Anthony Briscoe were the only Black artists on a festival lineup and aligned to do something about this issue. They assembled a team  to create Black and Loud Fest. This year’s festival featured 24 bands, including King Youngblood, Tiffany Wilson, Nathan Nzanga, and more.

“It’s about filling your gas tank,” Creative Coach Josslynn said. “It’s electric, we’re all absorbing. Come see and absorb, and then you can output something great.”
