Celebrating 94 Years of Community Impact: Urban League of Seattle’s 23rd Annual Breakfast with Taraji P. Henson & Hill Harper
On The Day with Trae, hosted by Deonte Damper filling in for Trae Holiday, guest Josalyn Ford, Chief Advancement Officer of the Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle, discussed the upcoming 23rd Annual Breakfast on November 22. This year’s event, themed “Era of Essential Service,” will feature prominent speakers Taraji P. Henson and Hill Harper, emphasizing the importance of equity, advocacy, and community engagement.
Ford shared the Urban League’s 94-year legacy in Seattle's Central District, where they provide essential services like housing, workforce support, public health, and entrepreneurship resources. She emphasized the importance of community engagement to build lasting advocates for the League's mission and spoke about her extensive experience in fundraising, stressing her focus on transformational giving over transactional exchanges.
Reflecting on the significance of the breakfast, Ford noted how past speakers, including Trevor Noah and Magic Johnson, provided meaningful representation and empowerment for the Black community. This annual event, which Ford likened to a family reunion, brings Seattle’s community together for a celebration of resilience and unity, offering a powerful reminder of the League's mission to advance Black excellence and support equity.
