Empowering Black Men and Boys: Andre Franklin's Vision for Community Leadership and Wealth-Building

Brothers United In Leadership Development (BUILD) Andre Franklin shed light on the impactful work of BUILD 206, an organization celebrating its 11th anniversary of leadership development for Black men and boys. In a sit down Deaunte Damper, Franklin explained the organization's mission, "we focus on leadership development for Black men and boys, addressing issues impacting our community while recognizing intersectionality."

BUILD 206 organizes various community events, including Mother's Day and Father's Day celebrations, block parties, and backpack giveaways. They've also partnered with the Office of Labor Standards in Seattle to educate both employees and employers on labor rights.

A key initiative discussed was the BUILD Black Wealth Incubator Program, targeting young Black men aged 18-34. Franklin described it as "a shark tank-style incubator program with up to $5,000 in funding," emphasizing its goal to "build confidence, provide mentorship, support, education, and resources to the community."

Franklin stressed the importance of investing in marginalized groups, “it’s about helping them build their confidence and providing resources for growth." He encouraged community involvement, suggesting that people get involved in existing initiatives rather than starting new ones. "Mentor one person," he advised, highlighting the power of individual impact.

When asked about staying motivated, Franklin shared, "I find motivation in the individual stories of impact and the legacy I want to build for my 16-year-old son." He acknowledged the challenges of community work but emphasized the importance of perseverance.

Franklin urges the community to support BUILD 206 by participating in their programs and following their social media platforms. His passion for fostering positive change was evident throughout, as he continually emphasized the importance of mentorship, support, and resources for marginalized communities.

Franklin's work with BUILD 206 stands as a testament to the power of community-driven initiatives in creating lasting, meaningful impact. For more information on BUILD visit www.build206.com.
