Hadestown: Kimberly Marable and Kevin Morrow

Last month, Trae Holiday and Besa Gordon took over LA. During this trip, Holiday got to interview Kimberly Marable and Kevin Morrow, the star-studded Persephone and Hades of Hadestown.

Hadestown is an eight-time Tony Award-winning musical and is now taking its talent on tour. Hadestown is a musical with a complex story and spectacular vocals, especially from Marable (Persephone) and Morrow (Hades).

Morrow says that being in Hadestown finally allowed him to sing in a range that was comfortable for him. He loves the darkness and complexity of his character Hades. Morrow described the vocal tones Hades exhibits as earthy and a type of bass bravado.

Marable spoke about how being able to play Persephone was a gift because she was also able to delve into the essence of who Persephone is. She uses this gift to play Persephone to perfection on stage.

Both of the thespians said that being on tour gave the cast the ability to become a family and that the story is able to grow as they grow.

Something that Marable loves about theater is that: "we get to experience this piece on the stage and a part of the audience.” The audience is as much a part of the cast as they are; each audience is different; they are their own character.

Marable also went into depth about the relationship between Persephone and Hades.

"A lot of times on stage, you see relationships between a husband and wife, and everything is peachy keen, and that is not always the case. I think what's wonderful about Hadestown is we really get to see a real couple trying to work it out," said Marable.

Marable loves that within Hadestown, Persephone is an allegory to the circle of life. She comes above ground to experience the birth of spring, but once it is over, she has to experience the life of the dead underground with Hades.

Morrow also graciously articulated his take of Hades for us, "I've tried to make my take on Hades, to make him a very three-dimensional character, he's a man, he's a god, don't get me wrong, he's a king, but he has his flaws, he loves, he hates," said Morrow.

With Hadestown coming to Seattle from July 12-17, make sure to get your tickets before they sell out.

With all that adieu, both Morrow and Marable gave us their interpretations of their characters.

"Love can be reborn," said Marable.

"Love will always win," said Morrow.

Hadestown begins its run at the Paramount Theatre on July 12th and concludes on the 17th. You can purchase tickets here
