Revitalizing the Central District: Shaude’ Moore on the Future of the McKinney Center

In a recent episode of The Day with Trae, host Trae Holiday and welcomed, Shaude’ Moore, CEO of the Central District Community Preservation and Development Authority (CDCPDA), discussed exciting developments at the McKinney Center for Community & Economic Development (MCCED). Located in Seattle’s historic Central District, the McKinney Center serves as a hub for community and economic empowerment.

Moore shared the ongoing efforts to revitalize the McKinney Center, highlighting their progress since her appointment as CEO in August 2023. She explained how the CDCPDA has been restructuring its operations and aggressively planning for the next two to five years. The organization’s mission is to ensure that community members can return to the Central District, a neighborhood historically affected by gentrification. Their goal is to bring businesses and resources back to the heart of the city, empowering the community to thrive once again.

The CDCPDA has also been actively building a strong team. Moore emphasized the importance of staffing up to meet the growing demands of the organization, which includes roles such as a financial specialist, community engagement coordinator, and operations staff. This growth reflects the CDCPDA’s transition from a volunteer-driven entity to a fully functioning organization, with a board that now includes its first female president, Krishna Richardson Daniels.

In addition to discussing operations, Moore touched on the recent screening of the Fulfill the Promise documentary, co-created by Chardonnay Beaver and her sister Moet Beaver, at Mount Zion Baptist Church. The film documents the rich history of the McKinney Center and its impact on the community. The documentary screening, accompanied by a panel discussion, aims to engage the community in preserving the legacy of the McKinney Center and its founder, Reverend Dr. Samuel B. McKinney.

Moore's dedication and enthusiasm for the center’s future were evident throughout the interview, as she encouraged the community to stay connected through their website and social media platforms.
