Setting Pure Intentions for the New Year: Heru TchaasAmen Talks Aligning Your Energy and Purpose

As we welcome a new year, many of us find ourselves thinking about what we want to achieve and the goals we want to set. But how can we ensure that the intentions we set are truly aligned with our purpose and are achievable in the long run?

Qigong instructor Instructor Heru TchaasAmen joined The Day With Trae last January to share his insights on how to approach setting intentions in a way that will have a lasting, positive impact. Here are some key takeaways to guide you through this process:

Align Your Energy

Heru emphasizes that "if we're going to set intentions, we have to align our body, our energy, our chakra, you know, all of our internal systems." It’s essential to focus on energy work to ensure that your internal systems are in harmony. "Without aligning these, our intentions won’t be successful," he says. Often, we set ambitious goals for the new year, but by the first quarter, those goals fall flat.

This is why it’s crucial to take the time to align your energy. "Focusing on some breathing, some meditation, and movement that's really aligned to your energy work is hugely important," Heru explains. By grounding yourself in your body and spirit, you’ll create the foundation needed to pursue your intentions with clarity and focus.

Purpose Drives Intention

Heru also reminds us that "our intentions have to have a purpose." He poses important questions: "Why do we want to get in shape? Why do we want to eat healthy? Why do we want to make more money? Why do we want to find that perfect career? What is it that we want to give back to our community?"

He stresses that our intentions should be for the greater good, whether for our communities or families. "If it's a selfish reason, or just a basic reason like 'I want to get in shape because I want to look good and take a bunch of pictures,' that’s not enough." The real purpose behind getting in shape, for example, should be tied to something bigger, such as having the energy to support your family, being able to show up for events, or truly presenting your best self in all aspects of life.

"We have to take some time to be really intentional about our purpose for our intentions," Heru says, highlighting that it’s not just about throwing intentions out there without purpose.

Be Intentional About Your Intentions

Setting intentions requires reflection. Rather than setting vague resolutions like “I want to lose weight” or “I want to be successful,” take the time to ask yourself what your true purpose is. Why is this goal important to you? How does it align with your values and the impact you want to have on the world?

Being intentional about your intentions ensures they are rooted in a purpose that can guide you through the ups and downs of the year. And remember, it's not about perfection—it's about progress and aligning your actions with your values.

As we enter this new year, take the time to reflect on your intentions and make sure they are grounded in a deeper purpose. By aligning your energy and focusing on what truly matters, you’ll be setting yourself up for a year of success and fulfillment.
