DeiMarlon Scisney, CEO of H.O.P Technology Solutions, recently joined The Day With Trae to talk about the importance of data management for small businesses and nonprofits. Scisney emphasized that understanding and utilizing data effectively is crucial for growth and success in today's business landscape.

H.O.P Technology Solutions is a data and machine learning engineering company that focuses on social impact and equity analytics. With a team of eight Black engineers, the company is committed to helping underserved communities leverage data to access resources and funding.

During his interview, Scisney highlighted the challenges that small businesses and nonprofits face in adopting modern data strategies. He cited statistics showing that only 27% of small businesses and 43% of businesses overall have a modern data strategy in place. This lack of understanding and implementation can hinder organizations' ability to make informed decisions and achieve their goals.

Scisney stressed the importance of having a clear data management plan before implementing any tools or software. He outlined the key steps involved in developing a modern data strategy:

  • Data Ingestion: Collecting data from various sources, such as surveys, town hall sessions, and listening sessions.

  • Data Storage: Storing data securely and accessibly, often using cloud-based platforms like Google Drive.

  • Data Processing: Analyzing and extracting insights from the collected data.

  • Insight Derivation: Drawing meaningful conclusions from the data to inform decision-making.

Scisney also discussed the growing trend of AI as a service and the potential benefits it offers small businesses. He mentioned tools like ChatGPT and other AI-powered platforms that can assist with tasks such as document analysis, note-taking, and grant writing.

A key aspect of H.O.P Technology Solutions' approach is its focus on providing hands-on support and guidance to its clients. Scisney shared that many businesses prefer a more personalized approach, where experts sit down with them and explain the strategies and best practices for data management and tool implementation.

"It's all about the hand-holding experience with us," Scisney explained. "Really taking time to sit down, do a full technical review, right, and strategize around what's best for them for technology."

By demystifying data and providing practical guidance, H.O.P Technology Solutions is empowering these organizations to harness the power of data to drive growth and make a positive impact in their communities.

Scisney will be speaking at the upcoming RUDD'S R.U.B.B. (Raising Up Black Businesses) Initiative about the importance of data literacy and technology adoption for Black-owned businesses and nonprofits.
