WeRise Wines Celebrates Grand Opening with Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

WeRise Wines, a new wine bar and store in downtown Seattle, celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Mayor Bruce Harrell. The store's mission is to celebrate diversity and inclusion in the wine industry by showcasing wines from BIPOC and LGBTQ+ owned wineries. 

 "It was important... that communities of color and other underrepresented communities, that they get to see people who look like them and resonate with them, doing something that traditionally, people feel excluded from," said Jamila Conley, CEO and founder of WeRise Wines.

A Focus on Diversity and Community

"The mission of WeRise is to introduce people to BIPOC and LGBTQ+ owned winemakers, so people who haven't been given a focus or a spotlight," said Elly Vos, Chef at WeRise Wines. The store offers a variety of wines from these underrepresented groups and  the staff is eager to share the stories behind each bottle.

An Inclusive Space for All

WeRise Wines is more than just a wine store; it's a community gathering place. The space is designed to be inclusive and inviting, with a variety of seating options and a menu of delicious food pairings. "We want people to feel comfortable about asking about wines, trying different wines, not feeling judged for their knowledge of wines," said Michele Smith, Marketing Manager.

A Warm Welcome and Unique Experience

"We have not set up the expectation for them, that the experience is their own to have," said Celia Townsend, Bar Manager. The staff want customers to  "come in and have their own level of comfort."
