Mara Palmer - Community Member & ACLT Supporter

Meet Mara Palmer, a community member of Africatown Community Land Trust (ACLT), dedicated to empowering and preserving Seattle's Black community through strategic land ownership. Established in 2016 by proactive community members, ACLT has emerged as a central figure in the Central District, acquiring and developing land to ensure the vitality of our community. Despite facing challenges, our partnerships and steadfast strategies have yielded remarkable accomplishments, providing affordable housing and creating economic opportunities.

ACLT's core mission centers around community ownership. This principle guides us to secure land for affordable living spaces, develop community centers, and promote local businesses and entrepreneurs. Our efforts are focused not only on constructing properties but on nurturing a thriving and self-sustaining community, where all can prosper.

Mara stopped by The Day With Trae to discuss upcoming events, Summer of Soul offers a unique opportunity to connect with the community, honor our collective history, and inspire continued collaboration and resilience. Designed to entertain and engage, these events provide an enriching experience for everyone, from lifelong Seattleites to first-time visitors. Through our celebration of culture, we invite all to contribute to the ongoing narrative of empowerment and preservation in the heart of Seattle. Join us this summer to experience the spirit of Africatown.
