Shaquan Smith: Championing Equity and Sustainability in Seattle Parks

Shaquan Smith, a planner and strategic advisor for Seattle Parks and Recreation, is deeply committed to creating a more equitable and sustainable park system for all community members. With a focus on those most affected by racism, oppression, and colonization, Shaquan employs creative and participatory strategies to develop restorative solutions that benefit a wide range of park users.

Recently, Shaquan stopped byu The Day With Trae to discuss two exciting developments:

Park CommUNITY Fund: The Community Selection phase for the Park CommUNITY Fund has officially launched. Until the end of August, community members have the opportunity to select which Park and Recreation projects they would like to see funded in their neighborhoods.

Be'er Sheva Park Renovations: Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) is inviting the community to participate in shaping the future design for the next phase of renovations at Be'er Sheva Park. This is an excellent opportunity for residents to provide input and help create a park that truly meets their needs.
