ABOUT THE ARTIST

Bryson Tiller became one of the key breakout stars in 2010s contemporary R&B with the single "Don't" and a descriptively titled parent album, T R A P S O U L (2015), a moody swaggering set of slow jams that neologized a subgenre the singer/rapper took to the mainstream with multi-platinum certifications and Grammy nominations. True to Self (2017) and A N N I V E R S A R Y (2019), his subsequent studio albums, have either topped the Billboard 200 or reached the chart's Top Ten. Tiller's additional hits as a featured artist and duet partner are highlighted by DJ Khalid's "Wild Thoughts" and H.E.R.'s "Could've Been."

SONGS OF BLACK FOLK returns even bigger, bolder, and grander for its 2024 production on Sunday evening June 16th, at 7:00 pm at the iconic Paramount Theatre in Seattle.

​SONGS OF BLACK FOLK will once again present a music tradition that began on the African continent and was transported to the Americas, via slave ships, and took root in the daily sufferings of an enslaved Black people who chose to survive and who fought to be free. SBF will feature the rise of the Negro Spirituals and their evolution into other Black musical genres including, blues, jazz, Gospel, R&B, Hip-Hop, and even spoken word.

Join us for one-night only of soulful R&B with Musiq Soulchild! Known as one of the most influential singers of his generation, Musiq pioneered the “neo-soul” movement of the early millennium. Musiq has received 13 Grammy nominations and has sold millions of records throughout the world. He is still one of the most popular performers and a true artist. Known for his raw vocal talent Musiq went from singing on the street corners of Philadelphia in the late 90’s to landing a big record deal with Def Jam in 2000, ushering in a new age and sound of his own. His hits include "Halfcrazy", "Love", "Dontchange", "IfULeave" and "B.U.D.D.Y".

Hailed as one of the most vital standard-bearers of modern African music, singer, songwriter, and guitarist Fatoumata Diawara is taking her artistry to fresh and thrilling heights. Boldly experimental yet respectful of her Malian roots, Fatoumata’s music defines her as the voice of young African womanhood – proud of her heritage but with a vision that looks confidently to the future. Her live performances “scream with energy” (NPR), her stage presence both “hypnotic” and “captivating” (Rolling Stone).

With her new album London Ko, Fatoumata Diawara continues to reinvent traditional African music, after taking us back to her Mandinka roots. Her last album, Fenfo, saw her really begin to invent her own style, it earned her nominations at the Grammy Awards and Victoires de la Musique in 2019. Still rewriting the rules, Fatou plunges us back into her eclectic, avant-garde universe. With the different colours she brings to her music (afrobeat, jazz, pop, electro and even hip hop), it is impossible to put London Ko into any one box. “I put all my love, my soul and my body into the creative process for this album.” Sharper than ever with her words, she strikes a perfect balance between synthetic sounds and traditional Malian rhythms. A central figure in the English music world and a real connoisseur of African music, Damon Albarn co-produced the album, and features on no fewer than six tracks.

Kodie Shane aka “ItsTheDonBaby”, is an American song writer, rapper, singer, and all around entertainer. Although born in Atlanta, Georgia, she was raised between the Atlanta and Chicago connections.

Mariah the Scientist has announced the dates for her 2024 To Be Eaten Alive Tour to support her latest album of the same name.

The Live Nation-produced trek will begin in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Feb. 1, 2024, followed by eight shows throughout the month in the U.K. and Europe.

A North American leg begins March 6, 2024, at Neptune Theatre in Seattle, Washington, and runs through May 6, 2024 at Tabernacle in Atlanta, Georgia.

The last few years have marked many achievements for the Leicester-born star. Beginning 2020 with her second BRIT nomination, Mahalia featured on up-and-coming fellow Midlands rapper Pa Salieu’s debut mixtape, ‘Send Them To Coventry’, whilst also gracing the track list of Headie One’s #1 album ‘Edna’. Subsequently, Mahalia also received a GRAMMY nomination for ‘All I Need’ - Jacob Collier’s single of which she features alongside US rapper, Ty Dolla $ign. Shortly after, Mahalia concluded the year with three MOBO nominations for ‘Best Female Act’, ‘Best R&B/Soul Act’ and ‘Album Of The Year’ for her debut album, ‘Love and Compromise’, winning in the first two categories. In 2021, Mahalia was also nominated for her first ever Ivor Novello award for her 2020 collaboration with UK lyricist Pa Salieu for his single ‘Energy’ and subsequently concluded the year with an incredible headline show at London’s prestigious venue, O2 Brixton Academy. Adding to her long list of achievements Mahalia opened for Adele at her 2022 BST shows in Hyde Park last Summer whilst also joining Alicia Keys during her o2 Arena shows in London - she then concluded the year on a high, winning her third MOBO Award for Best R&B/Soul Act.

Besides the awards and nominations, it’s also been a time of deep personal growth, one that Mahalia describes as a real rollercoaster in her personal and professional life. Reflection has been the thread running through Mahalia’s writing and the singer hopes that her music will encourage her listeners to carve out time to also look back and re-evaluate: “We’re all fixated on how we can make ourselves better but I want people to also reminisce on lovely or painful situations they’ve lived through and how they’ve helped shape the people they are now.”

Peerless artistry combined with the uplifting pleasure of entertainment exists squarely at the heart of Jon Batiste’s musical vision which he calls Social Music and is the title of the full length debut. With his soulful voice, virtuosic piano chops and dapper sense of style, Jon Batiste, 27, transcends music genres with his modern take on American music. Jon has absorbed a musical language that disregards genre distinctions - reviving the roots of jazz, blues and other American music yet playing it in a way that is fresh, accessible and engaging. Produced by Jeff Jones “The Jedi Master” with Jon Batiste, Social Music features Batiste on piano, vocals and melodica, (which he has renamed the harmonaboard) and his Julliard trained band Stay Human.
