Unity Walk in Renton Addresses Gun Violence

Last Saturday, a Unity Walk was held in Renton, Washington to raise awareness about gun violence. The event was organized by Dr. James E. Sears III, who expressed his concern over the lack of action from his peers regarding the issue.

"This was a priority for me," Dr. Sears stated, emphasizing the urgency of addressing gun violence, especially among young people. He believes education and community engagement are key to preventing further loss of life.

The walk began at the Renton Transit Center and ended at Renton City Hall, where Dr. Sears delivered a powerful speech. He highlighted the need for unity and accountability within the community to address the root causes of violence.

Community leader Erica Conway also spoke at the event, stressing the importance of collective action. "We can't do this by ourselves," she said, urging for widespread support to tackle the issue.

The Unity Walk served as a platform for the community to come together and advocate for change. Dr. Sears's closing remarks encapsulated the spirit of the event: "We as a community can do something about it today."

Sears is the Pastor of Grace Temple, where slain Garfield High School student Amarr Murphy-Paine attended church.
