Empowering Lives and Bridging Cultures: Seattle Limbe Sister City Association's Impact in Cameroon

In a recent episode of The Day with Trae, host Trae Holiday welcomed LueRachelle Brim-Atkins, co-president of the Seattle Limbe (Cameroon) Sister City Association (SLSCA). They discussed the upcoming Taste of Africa event on Saturday, September 28, at 1 PM, which celebrates African culture through dance, drumming, cuisine, and a fashion show, while also serving as a fundraiser for SLSCA’s projects.

LueRachelle shared her extensive work with SLSCA since 2014, highlighting initiatives such as the Sewing Circle, which has produced nearly 5,000 menstrual care kits for girls in Africa, allowing them to stay in school during their periods. The association has also collaborated with Rotary Clubs to install a water system at the Limbe Regional Hospital and provides financial support for nurses and teachers in Cameroon, especially for children displaced by civil conflict.

The conversation touched on the importance of cultural connections and understanding the value of water, emphasizing that direct interactions can foster peace and mutual respect. LueRachelle’s passion for Africa was evident as she recounted her experiences leading delegations to various African countries, including efforts to distribute menstrual care kits during challenging circumstances.

Overall, the interview highlighted SLSCA’s mission to create cross-cultural understanding and provide essential support to communities in Cameroon while inviting the public to participate in the Taste of Africa event, aimed at bringing people together for a cause.
