Perry Porter: Celebrating Black Culture Through Music and Art

Perry Porter is a multi-talented artist based in Tacoma, WA. His work as a painter, songwriter, teacher, and fashion designer all reflect his commitment to celebrating and empowering Black people. Through his art, Perry aims to challenge conventional standards of beauty and provide a fresh perspective for Black youth.

Perry's watercolor portraits are particularly striking, often featuring women of color in surreal or manga-inspired settings. His use of vibrant colors and free-flowing forms creates a sense of playfulness, while also demonstrating his technical skill and control. This unique style, which Perry refers to as "Black Magic," celebrates the beauty and joy of Black culture.

Perry believes that art has the power to shape perceptions and influence culture. He is acutely aware of the lack of Black representation in mainstream media and fine art, and seeks to address this through his own work. By creating images that reflect the diversity and beauty of Black people, Perry hopes to inspire and empower his community.

Perry's passion for creativity extends beyond the visual arts. He is also a talented songwriter and performer. On August 1st, Perry will be hosting a Live Rap & Art Show at Neumos in celebration of his birthday. This event promises to be a dynamic showcase of Perry's artistic talents and his commitment to uplifting Black voices.
